Varicose veins are the most common superficial venous disorder of the lower limb. Venous malformations can also affect the lower limb, and a number of key syndromes are associated with venous malformation and/or varicose vein.

Procedural treatment options for these superficial venous disorders include surgery, sclerotherapy and laser. This article also provides an update on therapeutic advances in the areas of ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy and endovenous laser ablation of superficial veins.
